The Hummers are Back!

The Hummingbirds are back in Coal Creek Canyon. The first round of "scouts" has returned and will be followed by the regulars. It's time to clean your feeders and prepare for our friends who will be tired and hungry when they arrive.

Adam Jack posted this picture of a hummer that arrived on April 14.

What's Happening in the Canyon?
The Bears are Awake

Yes, the bears are back - secure all trash, hummer feeders, other bird feeders.

The first report this year was from the Wondervu area on May 2 - the bear was not seen but left its tracks in snow. It tore down 3 hummingbird feeders - the person is new to the area and did not realize the feeders have to be taken in at night or hung w-a-y out in space. Even daytime feeders are not really safe, just a little safer.

Then yesterday, May 5, a young, brown colored bear, went past two houses in the Crescent Park area about 8 a.m. but got no human related food.

Now, with Dave Barnett's big bear sighting, also on May 2, near Chute Rd, and Dottie West's report of a tree hugger by Byers and Sellers today, the season is well underway.

Thanks for sharing via the CC Yahoo Group - the more details, the better. Let's hope there are lots of sightings and few damage reports this year.

Keep those bears wild!

The cougar, I agree, is all too comfortable around human habitation!

Spotted in the Canyon...

It's a wild turkey!

Molly Fisher met this beautiful bird in the Gross Reservoir area.

If you look closely you can see Mrs. Turkey behind her partner, to the left.
