The Prairie Warbler’s latin name is Setophaga discolor. They live in eastern North America. Their preferred habitat is flat plains, grasslands, and overgrown fields. The Prairie Warbler breeds from April through September. They winter in southern parts. Their population status is of least concern. How do you tell the difference between a male and female Prairie Warbler? The Prairie Warbler female is a paler yellow than a male and has blurry streaks on the sides. What does a Prairie Warbler sound like? Buzzy zee-zee-zee, up to 10 rapidly ascending notes. What do they eat? Their diet consists of mostly insects including caterpillars, moths, crickets, beetles, ants, flies, spiders, millipedes, berries, and fruit. These birds wag their tails frequently.
